Prof. Dr Dr Löw receives the highest honour for science and the arts

Munich, 18 June 2026 – Prof. Dr. Dr. Löw received a special honour on Thursday: he was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and the Arts in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the European Heritage Project. The award is regarded as the Republic of Austria’s highest honour in the fields of science and the arts.

The Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and the Arts is conferred by the Federal President of the Republic of Austria, Prof. Dr Alexander Van der Bellen. The selection of the laureates is carried out by the Curia, the assembly of Austrian recipients of this prestigious award.

During a formal ceremony in Munich, the Austrian Consul-General, Adalbert Bicserdy, presented the award and the accompanying certificate to Prof. Dr Dr Löw. Numerous invited guests attended the ceremony and paid tribute to the honouree’s exceptional achievements. Among the guests of honour were Mona Fuchs, Second Mayor of the State Capital of Munich; DDr Karl Gollegger, former Deputy Mayor of the City of Salzburg; Hannes Heide, Member of the European Parliament from Bad Ischl, and Dr Ingo Friedrich, former Vice-President of the European Parliament.

Through the European Heritage Project, Prof. Dr Dr Löw has been committed for many years to the preservation, restoration and sustainable development of significant European cultural monuments. The award of the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art underscores the international recognition of his commitment to Europe’s cultural heritage.
