Villa La Zagara

“Here at Villa La Zagara, the scent of citrus blossoms hangs in the air like a promise of timelessness.”

Villa La Zagara, a historic 17th-century estate, is situated on Lake Garda—5 km from Riva del Garda and 2 km from Limone sul Garda—and thus lies in immediate proximity to the historic Limonaia San Sebastian, which is already owned by the European Heritage Project.

MORE INFORMATION

Limone sul Garda is renowned for the longevity of its inhabitants. This is attributed to the lemon trees growing in the area. “Zagara” refers to the blossoms of citrus plants—specifically the orange blossom, but also the flowers of the lemon and citron—which are highly prized for their intense and fresh fragrance. The citron is among the oldest cultivated citrus species and can also be found at the Limonaia S. Sebastiano. The European Heritage Project was able to acquire Villa La Zagara in the spring of 2026.

The European Heritage Project has acquired a depiction of Munich painted by the artist Bernardo Bellotto, also known as Canaletto, during his time in the city on the Isar. In addition, a preliminary sketch and an engraving, which was probably produced shortly after the painting, were also acquired. Through the acquisition of these works, the European Heritage Project has ensured that a part of Bavarian cultural history remains in the region.
